Who Should Clear Hydrants?
Dear residents and neighbors,
I have been asked this question several times so I figured I would answer the question here, to the best of my ability, for all to read. Although there are few hard and fast rules concerning who should clear hydrants, it is generally considered the responsibility of the residents occupying property near a hydrant. When winter is at its coldest, you may want to spend most of your time inside. However, it’s very important to keep an eye on what’s happening outdoors as well. Wintry weather can create fire safety hazards, such as ice or heavy snowfall that can obstruct fire hydrants. You can help reduce the risk by keeping nearby fire hydrants accessible and clear of ice and snow. In addition to removing snow and debris covering the hydrant itself, it is also recommended that the area around the hydrant as well as a path from the road is kept clear for easier access. Thank You, and A Very Merry Christmas and Happy and Safe New Year to All!
